To celebrate my husband's Birthday this year, we reverted back to childhood days and decided to have a bowling party. We rented 2 lanes for 2 hours at our local bowling alley and invited our kids and grand kids.
I could not begin to tell you when I was last in a bowling alley, and never have I bowled with a small ball that looked more like a boccie ball than a bowling ball. It's called Duckpin bowling and as far as I can tell it is indigenous to Rhode Island. The pins are short and squat compared to those that most folks are used to seeing, and with Duckpin bowling you get to throw the ball three times to get all 10 pins down. Not as easy as it seems.
We took all three grand kids and in the first game I lost to two of them. I made up for it in the second game clearly trouncing them by one pin. Did I mention that the grand kids are 3,4 and 6?
It clearly was a fun time and a great way to get together as a family. I guess you could consider it an activity as there is movement when you bowl, but I wouldn't exactly classify it as a heavy workout.
Why then, does my arse and my thighs feel like a took a kickboxing class? Bad enough that I was beaten by my grand kids, I do not think that I should also hurt.
My husband bowls every Monday night with my son, they are in a league, so the two of them know what they are doing. My daughter and other son are also very good bowlers. My 2 daughters in law started out slowly, but showed marked improvement as the day went on.
I on the other hand, maintained my constant level of sub par bowling throughout both games. I think I deserve points for consistency.......a consistently lousy performance, shameful really. Hey, my performance made everyone else feel better about their skills. Come to think of it, I probably bowled lousy 'cause subconsciously I wanted everyone else to succeed.
Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it !
