Show Me the Money !

I was driving into work this morning, listening to sports radio and happened to catch a spot about Manny Ramirez who had just been offered 25 million dollars to play baseball in sunny California for the Dodgers. 25 million dollars for just one year. He would be paid 25 million dollars for playing in a season that consists of only 162 games. And knowing his past history, he probably would not participate in all of them.
So what was his answer to this offer, he thought not. The Dodgers were showing him disrespect with a one year contract, he wanted a multi year contract.
I wish my employer would show me disrespect to the tune of 25 million dollars.
I think someone should give Ramirez a heads up on what is taking place not only in the states but around the world. Is he clueless? He must know that millions of Americans are unemployed, and that our new President and Congress are scrambling to make sure the country's financial system does not implode.
So there he sits with his greedy agent telling the Dodgers that 25 million dollars for one year just doesn't cut it. Show him a little respect, why don't you?
I have come to the conclusion that professional athletes seem to live in a world all of their own. I do believe that they forget that they are only as valuable as their fan base. When the fans stop going to the park, and stop buying licensed merchandise perhaps they will remember where the money to pay them is coming from. I am sick to death of hearing about how terribly disrespected they are, and is it just me, but doesn't the sports page seem to read like the police blotter lately?
I enjoy baseball. I am a Red Sox fan, and I think the best thing that team did was to unload Ramirez. I think the entire MLB should show him some respect and let him sit out a year, then maybe 25 million for one year will no longer seem like chump change! As a Red Sox fan, all I can say is I'm glad the Sox are a Ramirez free zone!
