We had the carpeting in our family room professionally cleaned today and got rid of all of the nasty winter stains that somehow every year seem to find their way in. The company pre-cleaned with a spray that had a wonderful citrus-y aroma that screams"just cleaned". And I loved it. It got me thinking of other smells that I welcome, and some that I can just do without: - The Smells I Truly Love
Bakeries, I love the smell of bakeries, whether it be in a giant super market grocery chain, or a hometown shop, love them both the same. - Freshly laundered sheets, love the smell, love the feel and if I ever were rich and famous, the first demand I would make would be to have my sheets changed daily.
Melted chocolate, whether for baking or making chocolate fondue - luscious smell
Freshly mown grass - truly a clean, fresh smell
The shiny clean hair of my grand daughters
Roses
The smell of the air after a Summer thunderstorm
The plastic-y smell of a new doll - especially the face
Noxema Leather - doesn't matter if it is a new pair of shoes, or leather furniture or a new purse - the scent to me is intoxicating
English Leather cologne - it wouldn't matter if a dirty, creepy unkempt man was wearing this cologne, I would stop, sniff, enjoy and be momentarily attracted
10 Things with smells that I could live without
- Bananas - the smell of a banana literally makes me gag, has since I was pregnant with my 1st child - ditto for banana bread or any suntan oil that smells like bananas
- Damp basements - Ewwwwwwwww
- Melon juice - love the fruit, not enamored of the smell of the juice left behind, especially of cantaloupe
- Tuna Fish - Love the tuna, not a fan of the smell of the can left in the garbage , or of a dish that may have had tuna on it left in the dishwasher for more than a day
- Gasoline, I pay to have mine pumped - even when it was over $4 a gallon, I really hate that smell.
- Beer - especially the day after a big party - when you need to clean up and there seems to be a bit of warm beer left in every bottle and can, Yuck - double Yuck if you find a cigarette butt floating in it
- The lawn care aisle at Home Depot or Lowes, immediate headache from here
- Any Calvin Klein perfume or cologne, in fact I made my sweet daughter keep her CK perfume in her car when she was in high school....she was forbidden to spray it in the house.
- Most scented candles - the only ones I seem to tolerate are those associated with food - no surprise there
- And the worst smell - garbage that has been left for a week in the middle of July in an un-air conditioned house, especially if it contains raw chicken parts or disposable diapers , and yes I have experienced both.
