I have come to the realization, as much as I hate to admit it, I am not trendy. It's not that I do not wish to be trendy, sometimes I do, but alas the fates are against me.I tried to step out of the box recently when it comes to fashion. I purchased a dress that was certainly Au courant, and when I tried it on and paraded it in front of my husband and my daughter I got the "what were you thinking, mom" look from both of them. Subsequently, I tried on another more traditional dress and was greeted with, yes now that's more like it, yes that's you. The dress was alarmingly like every other dress I own with the distinction of being a different color.
I admire folks who have the ability to pull off trendy. Way back in the day, I liked the Annie Hall look -but I just looked absurd in the Annie Hall look. Big hair of the 80's passed me by as well, I figure I saved a bundle on hair spray.
I think the closest I ever came to actually "doing" trendy was to get a shag haircut....call me wild and crazy, but that haircut was all the rage and it looked great on everyone else. However, my head is large, (I wore the largest mortarboard when graduating from college) something I should have definitely taken into consideration before the haircut. My head looked like a giant bowling ball sitting on my shoulders. An absolutely dismal try at being trendy, which by the way, took forever to grow out, but I'm blaming this shag haircut fiasco on the fact that I was pregnant at the time and my hormones were going crazy.
And, I'm not much into passing fads either. I don't have a giant star on my house, and I don't have a talking fish clock, or a blanket with arms. Those things just aren't me. I have never bought a single item shown on an infomercial or featured on any of the shopping networks.
And in my obituary, trendy will not be one of the adjectives used to describe me. Sigh.........
