My Last Name Should be KLUTZ !

I am ready to declare to the world, (alas, what many probably already know) I am a 100% bonafide klutz. I injure myself in the most bizarre ways and of late, it has been non-stop.

I needed to change a light bulb in a 3 bulb fixture in my kitchen. The fixture is one that forces you to change the bulb from the top down, no problem. I figure I just climb on the step stool, look into the fixture and swap the burnt out bulb for the new one. Well............the step stool didn't quite get me to where I needed to be, however it did make it easier for me to step up onto the center counter, a wee bit further away from the fixture than I would have liked, but hey, nothing to it, right? So I leaned over to change the bulb, naturally it is the one the furthest away from me, and did I mention that I never turned off the light before I began this process. I reached across the lighted bulb to get to the burnt out one and promptly burned the underside of my wrist. And I think to myself at the time, how bad can it be, it's only a light bulb. Wrong, it may only have been a light bulb, but it burned the skin right off, OUCH! Even holding a glass filled with ice (and a nice Riesling) against it for the most of the night did not make the stinging go away. Even now, a week later it is still tender to the touch.

Then the very next day, I was wrapping a gift for a wedding shower. I held a roll of tulle in one hand, and was trying to estimate how much I would need to completely wrap the present. I pulled on the roll to tighten it in preparation for a cut by scissors which I held in my right hand, and when I went to snip the tulle, I also snipped the inside of my hand causing an L shaped cut. Blood, copious amounts of blood. I needed help from hubby to press gauze against the wound so I could wrap the entire hand with surgical tape. Hurt like the dickens, hurt worse the next morning when I took a shower. And now that it has healed a bit, it still hurts when I hit it by accident, which to me seems like I am doing all the time. In retrospect this injury probably could have done with the same ice treament as the burn. (little bit of ice, lotta Reisling)

And finally, my car got me when I tried to get into it very quickly during the most recent storm and closed the door on my leg. Bruise, big bruise, green-blue bruise, must wear slacks til it heals kind of bruise. I'm thinkg the ice treatment problably would helped this one as well.

I want attribute the rash of klutzy-ness that I have been experiencing lately to the fact that I seem to always be in a hurry, but the reality of the situation is I have been like this my entire life, I guess it's who I am. Looking on the plus side of things, if I am ever abducted, and then beheaded, my hubby can identify me from all of scars - hey it's who I am. Some people adorn themselves with tattoos, I have mementos from minor mishaps!
