It is only January and I think I have had just about enough snow for the winter. I must admit that when the first snowflake of winter falls, I always oooh and ahhhh about it and I am sentimental when it comes to wishing for a white Christmas, but once Christmas has come and gone, so should the snow.
Although I was born in New England and have lived here forever, I still do not like driving in the snow, and I especially do not like trying to drive when the mounds of snow are piled so high that you need to inch out of side streets and even driveways in order to try to crane your neck around the snow mountains to see if there is another car coming.
I don't like cleaning snow off of cars either. Invariably I get into the car, turn on all the gadgets, get out to actually brush off inches of snow, and get back into the car only to realize I never had any heat going to the windshield. DUH! But boy are my toes toasty. I think that I waste more gas trying to thaw out my car than I do driving it!
What's worse than the snow, is combating the crunchy ice that seems to always make an appearance especially when the weathermen promise a turnover to rain. Scraping that off of a windshield is like trying to remove label glue from a present before you wrap it, next to impossible.
And with this much snow on the ground I just do not want to go anywhere. There is always slush, ice and of course you need to bundle up which means you need to dress in layers, pull on the boots, grab the scarf and gloves and plop on a hat that has been sitting on the shelf in your closet forever, and probably smells like the last thing you cooked. So your head ends up smelling like a burger!
We have a snow blower, and we have a shovel. One of us uses the snow blower and the other uses the shovel, and my back hurts every time it snows! I suppose I could also use the snow blower if I took the time to learn how, but I equate that piece of machinery to a lawn mower, and I don't want to figure out how that works either.
It is only mid-January and they say that February is the snowiest month....I'm glad it is also the shortest month as well.
