Get One Thing.....Need Another

Over the Columbus Day Weekend, we had a new bay window installed. It replaced a drafty old wooden one that still had the old fashioned outside attached storm windows, and some pretty nasty woodwork that had taken a beating from an unexpected leakage from a bit of an ice dam problem that cropped up last Christmas Eve. (can you say wet presents?) The new replacement window now matches the other white vinyl clad replacement windows that we put throughout the house. So I am very happy about that, and I know that in the dead of winter we will now be able to sit in front of the window and not see the drapes gently swaying on a windy day, that's definitely a plus.

In order to replace the window, we had to remove drapes, remove sheers, remove rods and move furniture. Nothing has been put back in place as yet, and the light flowing through the panes in that new window is amazing, it lights up the whole front room and even into my dining area.....making all of it look really shabby. When the room was darker (I'm betting it was from the lack of soap and water ever touching any of the outside panes of the old bay window) I didn't notice that the ceiling looked grey or that the walls looked dingy, in fact I thought everything was looking not so bad for being more than 20 years old. My, my, my, how we can deceive ourselves!

For the next few weekends ( let's be honest, maybe months) I will be diligently removing wallpaper, sanding walls, and painting. I will need to pick out new drapes, new carpeting, new colors...and I'd like to get this all done before Thanksgiving....but that might be pushing it a bit. At this time in my life if I go full force on one day, it seems that this body needs the next 6 to recover! I'm thinking that if this is anywhere near to being done by Thanksgiving, I will truly have something to be thankful about, I know my aching bones will be ever so thankful !
