I love New England, especially in the fall. My commute to work is never pleasant, but when the foliage begins to change, I actually enjoy the ride.
I can't imagine trying to explain the reds, oranges and golds to a person who has never experienced it, the variations of all 3 colors along with the mix of green from the evergreens is almost indescribable.
I understand those folks who want to move to a warmer climate and escape the sometimes long and harsh winters. If I moved to a warm climate I would pine for New England in the fall. I love everything about it. The crisp cool nights, the warm sunny days, the harvest moon, the leaves falling. I especially like the colors associated with fall, the color of pumpkins, mums and Indian corn.
I'm not a big proponent of Halloween, but I do love Thanksgiving.
I think what I like the most about the fall is the food associated with it. Like - apple pies and apple crisps, turkey with potatoes and stuffing, baked beans and hot dogs with brown bread, and home made bread baking in the oven while a beef stew simmers on the stove.
I also like the fact that fall begins the football season.
There is something comforting in bringing out the well worn fleece robe and comfy suede slippers, snuggling on a couch with an afghan wrapped around you and rooting for your favorite football team while sipping home made vegetable beef soup and dipping just baked bread slathered in butter into it while quickly stuffing the soup soaked bread into your mouth before it falls back into the soup and disintegrates.
Fall is my season, good food, good football, and good grief.....................a quick 10 pound gain!
