Leaving my house this morning, I actually had to stop and view the lovely daffodils and jonquils that are finally in bloom. Standing upright against the dull grey foundation of my house, these lovely yellow blooms pop - making me smile.
It got me to thinking, yellow is a happy color. Daffodils make me smile, confirming in fact that Spring will come. I think that most of my favorite flowers are yellow, roses, yarrow, coreopsis, day lilies. If a fruit is yellow, generally speaking it gets a smile out of me. Bananas conjure up all sorts of silliness, from monkeys to laughing at someone who slips on a banana peel. I can hear you saying but Whoa there, lemons are sour, and I must agree, but when I think of lemons I also think of adult beverages, and that puts a smile on my face.
In the spring gold finches begin to "yellow up" from their drab winter look, another true sign that Spring is just around the corner.
Yellow houses somehow always look inviting. Yellow is the one crayon in the box that gets used a lot, someone was always drawing the sun, stars and happy flowers. I think the guy who sang, "Call me Mellow Yellow" had it right.
And as much as I like yellow, my house is painted green, no rooms or furniture are yellow and I do not own a single piece of clothing in any shade of yellow.
I think this summer I'm going to try and find the biggest and brightest yellow sunhat that I can buy. I'm hoping it will keep me in this sunny, can't wait for Spring kind of mood.
