A Spoonful of Sugar

I subscribe to Reader's Digest magazine. It is not the most intellectual of publications, but the design is such that is fits perfectly on the top of all toilet tanks, thus becoming the magazine of choice for a bathroom. The book is laid out in such a way that the reader can easily finish an article without alienating everyone else in the household. Yup, there's no bathroom hogs with Reader's Digest. http://www.rd.com/

I just read in Reader's Digest that the average adult should not consume more that 6 teaspoons of sugar in a day. Are you kidding me? For breakfast alone with a sprinkle on a grapefruit, a teaspoon in one cup of coffee and a sprinkle on the good old rice krispies, not to mention the sugar in the jam you might have on your toast, you probably have used three quarters of your sugar calories for the day.

If we all followed this rule throughout the nation chocolate companies, bakeries and sweet shops would go out of business. And what happens to Halloween, and the Easter Bunny? More traditions biting the dust ! Say good-bye to red licorice, never!

I would like to know who the genius was who came up with this one. If in fact by sticking to this rule, it would extend your life for a year (so you die at 90 instead of 91) I say break the damn rule.

I say put the sugar rule back where it belongs, in the bathroom safely ensconced in the Reader's Digest on the back of my toilet.

Sheeeeesh!
